Service overview
Residential carpet cleaning with Dons Cleaning Services
What it is
Residential carpet cleaning is a deep clean and sanitise of the carpets in your home. Don does not just rinse the surface. He uses hot water extraction or a low-moisture method to pull out the grit, oils and bacteria that build up at the base of the fibres, where a household vacuum can’t reach.
Who it’s for
It suits homeowners, families with young children, pet owners, people with allergies, and landlords getting a property ready. If your carpets look tired, smell stale or feel rough underfoot, they are holding soiling that a deep clean can remove.
When you need it
Most homes benefit from a deep clean before the carpet starts to look grey in walkways, after a spill or accident, before or after moving, ahead of guests or a sale, and whenever a room smells musty even after vacuuming.
Why a professional clean matters
Hire machines often leave carpets wet for a day or more and can leave sticky residue that attracts dirt faster. Don chooses the method for your fibre type and soiling level, uses biodegradable solutions, and force-dries where needed so the carpet is never left saturated.

If it’s left
What happens when it’s ignored
Grit at the base of a carpet acts like sandpaper. Every footstep grinds it into the fibres, so walkways flatten, fray and turn grey long before the rest of the room. Oils from feet and pets bind dust to the pile, and the carpet looks dirty again days after a vacuum.
The risks and costs
- Worn traffic lanes that can’t be cleaned back and need the carpet replacing sooner
- Spills that wick back up from the backing and reappear as brown patches
- Trapped dust, dander and bacteria in the room your children play in
- Musty smells that come back no matter how often you vacuum
Common mistakes to avoid
- Scrubbing a stain, which spreads it and frays the fibres
- Using too much shop-bought shampoo, which leaves a sticky residue
- Over-wetting with a hire machine, which soaks the underlay and slows drying
- Waiting until a carpet looks dirty, by which point wear has already started

In detail
How Don cleans different carpets
No two carpets clean the same way. The fibre, the backing and the type of dirt all change the right method, so Don adapts every job rather than running one process for every room.
Hot water extraction
Hot water and a cleaning solution are rinsed into the pile and extracted straight back out, taking soiling, residue and bacteria with them. It is the deepest clean for heavily soiled carpets and family rooms. In summer it usually dries within an hour; in winter it takes longer, which is when air movers and heater fans are used.
Low-moisture cleaning
A low-moisture method uses far less water and suits lighter soiling, delicate carpets and homes that need the room back quickly. These cleans dry in around 30 minutes.
Synthetic carpets
Nylon, polyester and polypropylene carpets are common in modern homes. They handle hot water extraction well and dry faster than natural fibres.
Wool and natural fibres
Wool and other natural fibres need gentler solutions and controlled moisture. They take longer to dry, so Don manages moisture carefully to protect the fibre and backing.
Room sizes and stairs
Small, medium and large rooms are priced separately, with living rooms at £75. A full set of stairs, 12 to 13 steps plus up to a medium landing, is £100.
Homes with pets and children
Every solution is biodegradable and safe for children and pets, so there is no harsh chemical smell left in the room afterwards.
Get the most from your clean
Preparing for residential carpet cleaning, and keeping the result
Simple steps that make the visit quicker and help the finish last longer.
Before Don arrives
- Clear small items
- Move ornaments, toys, cables and anything fragile out of the area booked for residential carpet cleaning. It lets Don start straight away and keeps the full visit focused on cleaning.
- Point out problem areas
- Tell Don about spills, accidents, marks or areas you are worried about. Knowing the history of a stain helps him choose the right method and set honest expectations.
- Plan access and parking
- Let Don know about parking, access and any rooms he should avoid. Equipment needs a clear route in and out of the property.
- Keep pets and children nearby but clear
- The solutions are safe for children and pets, but keeping the work area clear while equipment is running makes the job quicker and safer for everyone.
After the clean
- Let it dry fully
- Low-moisture cleans dry in around 30 minutes. Hot water extraction usually dries within an hour in summer and longer in winter. Synthetic fibres dry faster than natural fibres.
- Help the air move
- Opening a window or keeping the heating on in colder months helps drying. Where needed, Don uses industrial air movers and heater fans so nothing is left saturated.
- Vacuum regularly
- Regular vacuuming removes the loose grit that wears fibres fastest, so the result of a deep clean lasts longer.
- Deal with spills quickly
- Blot fresh spills with a clean white cloth rather than rubbing. Rubbing spreads the mark and frays fibres. For anything that won’t lift, call Don.
How pricing works
DCS publishes its prices so you can work out the cost before you call. Homes are priced per room or per seat, commercial carpets at £5 per m², hard floors at £8 per m², and natural stone starts with a £30 diagnostic visit and test patch before a final quote. Where a price isn’t listed yet, Don will quote once he knows the size and condition. There is no hard sell: you get the price, then decide.
Paying for your clean
You pay once you’ve walked through the finished job and are happy with what you see. DCS accepts cash, bank transfer or invoice, which suits homeowners, landlords, letting agents and businesses alike. Every price on this page is for a genuine deep clean and sanitise, not a quick surface rinse that leaves dirt and residue behind.
